“But when the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor-Counselor, Strengthener, Standby) comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of Truth who comes from the Father, He will testify and bear witness about Me.“ John 15:26
When I ponder all “The Comforter” is and does for me as a follower of Christ I am in awe. Speechless at times. Humbled to be sure. He guides, leads, comforts, intercedes on our behalf and more. When I am in that difficult place where light is hard to see, He is interceding for me. When I don’t know the words to speak, He speaks for me. When I can’t see where to turn, He whispers to me.…”come follow me.” He is ever present, ever available and ever kind. To an undeserving sinner…like me.
COMFORTER:
Noun: nominative singular masculine {par-ak’-lay-tos} – παρακλητoς
Summoned, called to one’s side, especially called to one’s aid. One who pleads another’s cause before a judge; a pleader, counsel for defense, legal assistant, an advocate. An intercesor of Christ in his exaltation at God’s right hand, pleading with God the Father for the pardon of our sins. In the widest sense, a helper, aider, assistant. Destined to take the place of Christ with the apostles (after his ascension to the Father.) To lead one to a deeper knowledge of the gospel truth, and give divine strength needed to enable one to undergo trials and persecutions on behalf of the divine kingdom.
We believe the Bible to be Holy Spirit inspired and the only infallible, authoritative word of God. We believe that there is one triune God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, his virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, atoning death through His shed blood, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in his personal return to power and glory. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit (aka: the Comforter) by whose indwelling the Christian is able to live a godly victorious life. We believe in eternal life with God in heaven to all those who have been born-again through salvation by Jesus Christ.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” John 3:16 KJV
HOW TO BE SAVED
1. Realize/Admit that you are a sinner.
No matter how good a life we try to live, we still fall miserably short of being a perfect person. That is because we are all sinners. Sin simply means that we can’t measure up to God’s perfect standard of righteousness. The Bible says, “No one is good—not even one.” We cannot become who we are supposed to be without Jesus Christ.
2. Recognize that Jesus Christ died on the cross for you.
The penalty for sin is death, but instead of giving that death to us, Jesus shed His blood and suffered death for us that we might be forgiven by God. The Bible tells us that “God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” This is the Good News, that God loves us so much that He sent His only Son to die in our place when we least deserved it.
3. Repent of your sin and go the other way.
The Bible tells us, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away.” The word repent means to change our direction in life. Instead of running from God, we can run toward Him. When we confess and repent, we are agreeing with God that we need His grace and forgiveness in our lives.
4. Receive Jesus Christ into your life.
Becoming a Christian is not merely believing some creed or going to church. It is having Christ Himself take residence in your life and heart. It means having a personal, intimate relationship with Him. Jesus said, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in . . .”
If you would like to have a relationship with Christ, we encourage you to pray this prayer and mean it in your heart:
“Dear Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. Right now, I turn from my sins and open the door of my heart and life. I confess You as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me. Amen.”
